The Kindred Copyright 2012

Graphite and Charcoal on 14" X 17" Strathmore Medium Tooth Recycled Paper.

MATERIALS USED ON ALL MY WORK

Mechanical Pencils: 0.5mm 2H and 2B (Graphite)

Generals Charcoal Pencils: 557-HB Hard, 557-6B ex. soft

Blending stumps

Paper Towel (for blending)

Kneadable Eraser

Faber-Castell Pencil Eraser (core is filled with eraser material instead of lead. Can be sharpened to a very fine point. Great for rendering hair against dark backgrounds)

I typically work with Strathmore Recycled Medium Tooth Paper (charcoal will not adhere to smooth surfaces like bristol) prefering 14" X 17"

This piece represents a milestone for me personally and a New Era as is represented with a new style of Signature. It signifies to me that I am at last capable of doing what I see in my Mind's Eye and that I am able to aptly apply the tools I've been trained with to accurately convey the same said images.

My last piece, Bad Medicine, was an exercise in seeing if I still had my chops after taking nearly a four year hiatus for personal reasons. I still had on my JD Hillberry Training Wheels as is evident with the style and subject matter. But The Kindred represents not only the learned and practiced skills I have attained, it is also a window to my heart. In other words, the subjects of Wildlife, Nature and the Beauty of raw Landscape are near and dear to my heart and soul. I wish to focus on that as a muse and hopefully accurately convey that passion in my renderings.

The Kindred is also a Spiritual Metaphor of sorts. I have a plethora of predatory beasts seemingly entwined with one another without a perceived struggle or rebuke. A utopian image of hope and dreams of Unity and Etheric Kinship in the sense that through Spirit, we are all of us related and all of us One. Whatever I can do to help manifest not only that idea but more importantly the feeling of this concept in others is what I must and thusly it comes from a heart wielding broken and bent hands over paper.

My hope is that this work and others soon to follow bring Joy to your eyes and a settled heart.

Thank you all so much for the support and I thank you again in advance for all the Watches, Faves and Love in response to this piece.

I Love Y'all as well,

Erik
